Grammar Point: Comparatives and Superlatives

Hi again!

In this post I am going to explain the use of Comparatives and Superlatives. 

First of all we have to think about if the adjective we are going to use in order to make the comparison is a short adjective (one or two syllables) or a long one (more than two syllables)

SHORT ADJECTIVES: fast, tall, thin,...

Comparative Structure: Something/Someone is + adjective + -er + than + something/someone

Example: Lucy is stronger than me. 

Superlative Structure: Something/Someone is + the + adjective + -est 

Example: Lucy is the strongest


LONG ADJECTIVES: beautiful, interesting, useful,...

Comparative Structure: Something/Someone is + more + adjective + than + something/someone
Example: A crocodile is more dangerous than a cat

Superlative Structure: Something/Someone is the + most + adjective
Example: The crocodile is the most dangerous animal we can find in rivers. 

Also we have to know that there are some irregular adjectives such as...

good - better - the best
bad . worse - the worst
far - further - the furthest
