Past Simple and Continuous

Hello! 

Here you have a simple explanation of the difference between the Past Simple and the Past Continuos. 


THE PAST SIMPLE

We use the Past Simple to talk about a finished action. 

Structures: 

Affirmative: Personal pronoun + verb + complements
  • Regular verbs: -d or -ed
  • Irregular verbs: 👓

Negative: Personal pronoun + did + not + infinitive + complements

Interrogative: Did (auxiliar) + personal pronoun + infinitive + complements?

PAST CONTINUOUS

The Past Continuous tense is used to talk about actions that are taking place in the past but they are in progress. 

Structures: 

Affirmative: Personal pronoun + was/were + gerund + complements

Negative: Personal pronoun + was not/ were not + gerund + complements

Interrogative: Was/were + personal pronoun + gerund+ complements?
